The Joy Professionals

Quick to smile and easy to laugh, the Balinese are experts at living a life of joy and fulfillment. They live in the moment, neither regretting past events nor vexing on what has yet to happen.

Perhaps nowhere else on Earth lives a better example of truly living in a joyful state than in Bali. Life here is interwoven with spirituality, delight in daily rituals and appreciation for all surrounding them.

We live, work, play and grow in harmony with our local community, the people of Sukawati village. Their support and encouragement was a driving force in our development and we involve the community in deciding exactly which philanthropic efforts will be of most help and interest to them.

  1. Anila:

When we want to escape, we think of swinging in the hammocks up in the yoga studio over looking the rice fields and trees, the fresh warm breeze perfectly running across skin with the Indian Ocean in the distance, having just had one of the delicious smoothies, or lounging in the pool before meandering over to luxuriate in any one of their decadent body treatments, the smell of delicate flowers on the air.
Exceedingly decadent and welcoming, thoroughly and lovingly operated, devout respect of Bali, her people, land and history, high level of integrity in every single person at the Floating Leaf, a deeply impactful experience of joy, laughter, nourishment and texture.

  2. Josie F:

Initial impressions set the scene for what turned out to be an incredible 5 days. Hotel itself is sublime, bed massive and mega comfy, semi-open air bathroom a lovely treat, air con all great. Food was fantastic, all lovely, delicious and healthy. Putu very kindly wrote up many of the recipes for me, along with teaching some in the fabulous cooking class, and they are now forming my staple diet. Location was great. The trips that were organized were just brilliant. Massages and facials I had were divine. Perhaps my favorite moment was my morning sat in the pool on the specially designed seat, reading, with coffee being brought to me on (polite!) demand… The staff are all so incredibly attentive and happy, ready to chat or leave you to your own devices as you so desire. I cannot recommend this place more highly and am already planning my return trip. Thank you for a truly life changing time, I’ll be back…

  3. Erik:

Rarely do I give a place 5 stars. But Floating Leaf more than earned it. Through outstanding service, and excellent and well planned menu, and one of the most wonderfully private locations, they have won me over.
Ubud has long been touted as the yogi paradise of Bali. WRONG!!!! It’s Floating Leaf and their commitment to holistic living and community outreach. You can feel the love from their staff and ownership. Providing a harmonious environment which will allow you to actually BREATH. To think and explore whatever changes you want to make in yourself and the world around you.

  4. Tamara:

I was truly blessed on so many levels, I was in awe of the energy there, surrounded by rice paddies feeling the cool fresh breezes off the near by ocean which was in view from my room.
I received such a warm welcome that I wrote a friend and told them that I was officially in heaven! What a feeling to feel that love of self and totally cared about and genuine interest of who I was and what my interests were. I was comfortable in their care instantly.
Floating Leaf Eco Retreat delivered exactly what my soul required. I’ve been home in Australia for 10 days now, my smile has been off my dial, which keeps me connected to the joy I felt during my stay.

I said I was truly blessed in my opening, to explain a little more about my stay I had an immaculate room of which the bathroom was partially exposed to nature by a low wall connecting me to the outdoors.

I take food seriously and there were so many times that I was so involved with my meal and friendly chatter that I didn’t even photograph the epic proportions of it! I was in the moment always and chose not to post social media about it as it distracted me from the essence of my experience.

I can’t thank Mikaku and Putu enough, they are honest, open, grounded, hilarious superstars in my mind, compassionate, offering genuine friendship and are committed to excellence in a very comfortable way. They and their staff are commitment to superb hospitality and building relationships is 5 Star!

All in all, I experienced genuine love, comfort, great food, treatments and massage to be for a Queen, lush vibrant surrounds and gardens, exceptional facilitators in yoga and healing, organic produce, koi fish swimming around, and wonderful excursions to wood work gallery, silver gallery, water healing temple (highly recommended) and more!

Prepare to be amazed at life and feel inspired and transform into your best self. 5 STAR!!!

  5. Kathleen:

I have stayed in many villas in Bali and beyond and Floating Leaf wins the title of the greenest (both figuratively and literally as it’s surrounded by beautiful lush gardens and rice paddies). I was bowled over by the big welcome I received and as I learned more about the love and effort put into making this place completely self- sufficient, using renewable, recycled and sustainable products for everything even down to the flooring I was really struck with the amazing work this place is contributing towards the Balinese community and their guests. Oh and it doesn’t even compromise on style and luxury. I would’ve stayed for weeks! Go to this place it’s for your own good!

  6. Jennifer M:

We spent 10 days in Bali at the floating leaf. We were treated with such kindness by all of the staff and they catered to every need we had- meals, tea, set up appointments, made arrangements for day trips, took care of all the details so we could just relax and enjoy our vacation. We enjoyed daily conversations educating us about the culture and customs and were welcomed to participate in their local ceremonies. The food was amazing, the room was super comfortable (and wonderfully climate controlled), the pool was perfect for staying cool and relaxing, the yoga sanctuary was such a sacred and peaceful place to practice, the views of sunrise/sunset breathtaking, the resort was so beautiful and welcoming- I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Bali!

  7. Patty:

Although difficult to put into words the “feeling” one experiences once in the gentle hands of Michael and Putu, I’ll simply say, I felt embraced by the kindest, most gracious hosts ever known to weary travelers. The Bali experience at Floating Leaf needs to be on everyone’s bucket list. Their knowledge of the land and culture made each day’s adventure much more fascinating, then if you were to travel to Bali on your own. So much thought went into each detail of the resort, it is stunning! You want for nothing… except possibly an extended stay. In gratitude.

    Patty. USA

  8. Julie:

This was much more than I ever hoped for. We were experiencing Bali~ the people, the culture, the food, the ceremony and healing. Putu and Mikaku are so kind and loving, making sure all our needs were met. They provided healthy delicious meals, arranged transportation for anywhere we wanted and made it possible for us to do many things because they took care of these details. It felt like coming home every day and so many special things happened. The staff is the best and the space is beautifully laid out and comfortable. And relaxing spa treatments! This is the way to experience beautiful Bali!
