Dates to be announced:  This 6 Day Holistic Adventure Retreat, combines hiking and biking with yoga, meditation, breath work and wellness in the majestic outdoors.

This Holistic Adventure Retreat in the Cederberg promises to reset the body and the mind.  Join adventure enthusiast Kayden Kleinhans and his team of accomplished healers, culinary health experts and adventure guides for a unique life changing journey. Reset and reconnect with ourselves and nature.

We are living fast paced and stressful lives because we are detached from community, ritual and nature. We have an online existence and depression and anxiety are on the rise. Our modern lives are becoming disjointed and disconnected from the natural rhythms and cycles of nature and as a result we are spending more and more time behind screens. The knock on effects of the pandemic is taking its toll on people’s mental and physical health.  The need is to get out in nature, get active and care for our physical and mental health.

This holistic adventure retreat combines the endorphin manufacturing magic of outdoor adventure activities in beautiful locations in the Cederberg mountains with ancient, holistic healing techniques. Expect to feel amazing.

Location

The Cederberg is a magical mountain wonderland with unique rock formations.  It has clean water and ancient cave art from indigenous Khoisan tribes. This Western Cape location in South Africa is known for some of the best night skies in the Southern Hemisphere. We couldn’t think of a better space to take you on a moving meditation through nature.

Our Holistic Adventure Retreat in the Cederberg is a bespoke, exclusive experience.  The group is small.  This five night retreat takes place over the weekend closest to the new moon. This way we reduce exposure to moon light and increase the opportunity for stargazing which the region is famous for.

We have specialised a team of culinary experts, healers, instructors, teachers, indigenous elders and adventure guides to make this retreat the unique, transformational experience it is.  Read more about our Holistic Adventure Retreat in the Cederberg mountains in South Africa.

Benefits of exercise

When you exercise, your body releases chemicals such as dopamine and endorphins in your brain that make you feel happy. Not only is your brain dumping out feel-good chemicals, but exercise also helps your brain get rid of chemicals that make you feel stressed and anxious. The retreat will be focused primarily on hiking and biking activities when not in camp. Both of these forms of exercise will improve circulation, endurance and stamina whilst helping to destress. The retreat is also designed to push the body in physically demanding spaces. We believe that in these slightly difficult spaces there is great learning and growth to be had, especially when supported by a team or crew sharing that experience. Deep bonds and long lasting friendships are forged when sharing these experiences. Expect challenging curated outdoor activities, designed to unlock this magic with the golden key that can only be accessed when digging deep. Retreat participants should be fit enough to cycle 60 km on undulating gravel roads and be comfortable hiking 15km with a pack.

Setting intentions

Daily intention setting is a powerful way to clarify who you want to be (what you want to learn/experience), how you want to spend your time, and what you want to offer to the world. When we craft intentions, it helps us zero in on what we want more of in our life. Moreover, positive intentions can help us take action with self-compassion rather than the sense of pressure that goals create.

Nature immersion

Being immersed in nature reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant positive feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones.

Circadian rhythm

Circadian rhythm is a natural, internal process that regulates the sleep–wake cycle and repeats on each rotation of the Earth roughly every 24 hours. We aim to reset our internal circadian clocks as we rise with the sun, and get good restorative sleep shortly after meal time and sundown. This is an opportunity to rid yourself from polluting factors of the modern lifestyle and allow your body to fall back into its natural cycle as it begins to reset. Enjoy long, deep sleep cycles brought on by physically demanding, highly oxygenated, adventure filled days in the mountains.

Digital detox

Taking a break from the screen will help you to bring balance to your digital and real-world lives. Soaking up real-time instead of screen time will ease anxiety, increase happiness, reduce multitasking, reduce those technology cravings, and allow you to connect more with the people in your life.

Food

We are as much what we eat as we are what we think. Feeding our minds and bodies with nutritional fuel is imperative when creating a balanced, harmonious system. Our meal plan has been specifically curated and designed to add the energy required to undertake the adventure elements of the retreat whilst being light on the system and our planet. Our Chef sources quality local ingredients with a strong emphasis on a plant based diet. However there will be organic, hormone free venison options for the body types that rely a little heavier on their protein. Expect a healthy, hearty, veggie driven experience sourced from locations close to home as we emphasise a low carbon footprint on the retreat.

Community

Lifelong friendships and bonds are forged in this space. It’s through sharing these transformative experiences with like-minded people that we cultivate a sense of belonging and feel connected to a common cause. We strive together towards undertaking the challenging physical elements of the retreat, supporting each other through these trying spaces and by feeling held and guided through these experiences we find immense growth and compassion. Expect to grow your community and friendship circle through this unique and transformational time in the wilderness.

Yoga

Multiple studies have shown that yoga decreases the secretion of cortisol, the primary stress hormone in the body. Enjoy a daily sunrise yoga session focused around a more traditional, gentle style of Hatha yoga. The daily yoga class caters to all levels and can be joined by novices and experienced practitioners alike. A huge benefit of yoga is the lengthening of muscles and increasing flexibility and mobility in our joints. Something we can all benefit from as we get older.

Meditation

Meditation is a powerful tool in ones pursuit of calm and serenity. Helping to rid the mind and body of unwanted tension and stress, our daily meditation session will take place after sunrise yoga. This gentle guided session is for all levels and will benefit first timers just as much as frequent practitioners.

Cold water therapy

Cold water therapy (Wim Hoff method) helps to stimulate the body’s immune system. At a time when having a robust immunity is potentially more important than it has ever been, our daily deep breathing techniques will help to oxygenate the system and prepare us for our cold water immersion sessions in beautiful natural swimming holes in the mountains.

Nomadic approach

The retreat has been designed in such a way that we move through the landscape on human energy and spend our nights at various locations in the region. This nomadic approach gives us a sense of accomplishment as we set camp at different sites, as well as a sense of detachment from a fixed location, something we are overly accustomed to in our daily lives and one that that leads to blockages. The nomadic approach helps to foster a sense of shedding skin and leaving behind layers of baggage we subconsciously drag/carry through life. Enjoy the glamping experience at various beautiful locations during the retreat as we move through the landscape.

Embodiment

A lighthearted morning ritual that combines tapping, jumping and shaking techniques to get all the nerves and neurons firing in our body and ready for the days adventure. No previous experience required.

Sound baths

Sound baths initiate a shift of your brainwave state and balance the hemispheres of the brain. Through frequency and immersion with sound it's possible, and very easy, to down-shift from our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness). Most people are able to reach theta (meditative state) and also delta (where internal healing can occur). The retreat will be opened and closed with a journey through sound.

Detachment / cashless space

Reboot’s all-inclusive model guarantees that you won’t have to put your hand in your pocket for the duration of the retreat. Experience a space free of monetary exchange and the energies that surround it. Enjoy a wilderness space where all your needs are already catered for.

Workshops / talks

Each day will be blessed with great food, beautiful nature and wisdom. Wisdom shared by various guest speakers and healers touching on a handful of fascinating topics and subjects pertaining to the region and the retreat.  Expect behind the scenes stories about ancient Khoisan rock paintings from local indigenous elders to stargazing nights under the Wolfberg Arch with an astronomer. The retreat aims to bring in fascinating humans to stimulate the mind as well as the body.

Kayden Kleinhans

The Reboot Retreat project is conceptualised and curated by Kayden Kleinhans; adventure traveler and filmmaker. Kayden has travelled more than one and half times around the world on human energy advocating for various environmental charities around climate change issues.

His television series Global Wheeling airs to millions around the world on TV channels such as Discovery and History channel, highlighting his adventure expeditions through the likes of the Sahara desert, the Andes and the Himalayas. Kayden's passion for conservation and the outdoors has earned him a handful of environmental awards since  2010.

“It wasn’t until the pandemic hit and lockdown rolled in that it became so evident to me that this outdoorsy, adventurous lifestyle I’d developed and one that I was now so accustomed to living was in fact extremely medicinal.  When these elements were taken away from me I could feel myself sliding into a depression, battling to sleep and feeling out of sorts as I got further and further away from being in tune with nature and was forced to spend more time indoors and behind screens.

I recently jumped back on a bicycle and cycled 800 km and walked a further 100 through some of South Africa’s most beautiful terrain. By combining various ancient techniques such as meditation and yoga with self-propelled adventure activities in beautiful outdoor wilderness spaces it once again dawned on me the transformational qualities and healing powers of such a lifestyle.

I developed the Reboot Retreat concept to share this magic and the profound impact this had on my sense of health and overall well-being. I felt that at a time of great struggle and uncertainty that it was a beautiful offering to assist in helping people realign with their purpose and find clarity and vitality in a supportive community held space." - Kayden Kleinhans

Reboot retreat combines adventure activities with a collection of powerful healing modalities. We believe that this unique combination has the most potent effect when striving for a reset. In order to get the best out of this retreat we highly recommend that you arrive fit enough to undertake the adventure elements at hand. We suggest that you are capable of hiking fit to the tune of being able to cover 15km with a backpack and cycling fit in the realm of 60km on undulating terrain. . We reiterate that in these harder places, where we push our physical abilities and leave our comfort zones in the company of a supportive team, immense growth is had.

Yes, the retreat is all inclusive. Please head over to the what to expect section of the website to see what's on the list of magical healing modalities and adventure activities during your 5 nights in nature. In addition to this only massage can be booked as an additional extra whilst on the retreat and paid for in cash with our traveling massage therapist.

Yes. The beautifully furnished glamping style Bell tents cater for either two singles or a couple sharing. All bedding, lighting, bedside tables and rugs are designed to make you feel luxuriously looked after whilst immersed in nature.

Yes, we recommend that you do as most riders are more comfortable and familiar with their own bikes. You will receive a R500 discount if you bring your own bicycle (e-bikes are also welcome if your'e not that fit but would still like to join in the retreat. However, you will have to bring your own e-bike and be responsible for it's working condition and security. For those of you that don't have your own bikes, modern, high end mountain bikes are provided for all participants and included in the price of the retreat.

There will be two adventure guides with the guests at all times. Our support vehicles will also be on hand for such an occasion. We do however implore all participators to come fit and ready for the adventure elements of the retreat in order to get maximum benefit from the experience. The hiking sections will however not be supported by vehicle due to the terrain.

Yes, you can. The retreat is however designed to move through the landscape in line with the “nomadic approach”. Camp will be broken down and moved daily. In the event that a participant opts out of a particular adventure activity they will travel in the support vehicle to the next location with the staff. We recommend that all participants try to complete the adventure elements of the retreat.

We endeavour to plan our retreat dates with favourable night skies and good weather. The Cederberg is a low rainfall region and it’s a rarity that we get rained on. However, we are dealing with nature and no guarantees can be made in this regard. Our camp will have a waterproof stretch tent as a communal area out of the rain. Your Bell Tent accommodation is also waterproof and provides shelter from the elements. The adventure activities such as hiking and biking will go ahead irrespective of the weather. At reboot we don’t believe in the term bad weather, it’s just weather in all her wonderful wild shapes and forms.

Depending on where in the season we are, temperatures will vary but prepare for hot days and cold nights/mornings. Gloves and beanie for the morning is a great addition to your kit bag especially for our Spring dates.

Non refundable up to 60 days prior to the retreat unless we can fill your spot. You will receive a full refund if you cancel more than 60 days prior to the retreat.

We are moving through a wilderness area and there is a potential for encounters with snakes and scorpions. However, most of our camp locations are generally lawned spaces for comfort and the encounters you would most likely have would be on a trail or hike. These hikes will have guides on them to assist if and when this happens. We implore you to practice vigilance when in the wilderness as we are all guests in this wonderful, wild wonderland and nature rules the roost out here.

No problem. All of our guided healing modalities from yoga to meditation and breath work caters to everyone from first timers to frequent flyers.

No. There is no alcohol on the retreat although we do offer alcohol free beer and cider in the evening with dinner.

We will be asking all of you to hand over your phones on day one of the retreat. In the event of an emergency our staff will be online for friends and family to contact if needed. If there is an emergency your phone will be returned you. The digital detox is an important element of the retreat and helps us to realign with ourselves and our community in nature. Our staff on hand will be capturing images and will create a collection of magical moments for all participants to have access to post retreat.

Great question! Reboot retreat marries glamping with adventure, all your sleeping arrangements are taken care of from bedding to towels, food and refreshments. We do however expect you to arrive with a ready to go adventure backpack for the retreat. What’s inside? Hiking shoes or boots (not brand new as these cause blisters, break those new boots in before the retreat). Comfortable clothes for hiking and biking, remember the sun is fierce in these parts so long sleeve breathable options are best to keep you protected from the elements. You’ll be swimming and doing yoga daily so prep for this too.

Evenings can get fresh and we’ll be doing an overnighter on the mountain for our stargazing evening so pack some warm gear too. Below is a basic checklist that we feel covers your needs, feel free to tweak it to meet your comforts. Remember that your backpack will be coming on the trails with you to carry snacks and up the mountain with you on night 3 so remember to choose wisely. Something with waist support and chest straps is highly recommended to take strain off your back. Most of your gear can stay in your tent and your bag can get packed for the daily activity. Your pack needs to big enough to cater for the overnighter whereby you’ll be carrying your inflatable mattress, sleeping bag, food and water up the mountain with you.

Backpack / Daypack / Trail shoes or hiking boots that can double up for cycling in unless you are a cleated rider bringing your own bike / Hiking socks / Sun hat or cap / Waterproof poncho or light jacket just in case there is rain / Warm jacket and fleece for night time. Comfortable clothes for meal time and yoga sessions and your swimsuits for daily cold water immersion sessions in the rock pools and rivers. Due to the intimate nature of yoga mats and sleeping bags we do not provide them on the retreat and advise you bring your own.
