Adventure Retreat

Adventure meets Wellness

For the past few years, in an effort to recover from life’s stresses, wellness retreats have become the go-to for many people around the world.  Wellness retreats often include yoga, healthy eating – often plant based, detox, meditation, holistic bodywork and transformational work.  Retreat hosts often combine art with wellness, writing with wellness and process work.

Adventure enthusiasts will tell you about the life-giving benefits of being out in nature, breathing in the fresh air and moving their bodies while exploring some of our planet’s magical places on foot, water or air.  They may speak of the rush of a bike ride through mountains and rivers and the deep satisfaction of immersing yourself in a natural pool after an exhilarating nature experience.  It just makes sense to combine adventure in beautiful sceneries with wellness.

Adventure Enthusiasts

Our Holistic Adventure Reboot Retreat combines the endorphin manufacturing magic of guided hiking and biking with several wellness practices in majestic outdoor locations. Travelling roughly 140km on human energy over the course of 5 days and nights, we believe this deep immersion into nature on our own human steam helps to unlock certain parts of the mind that can only be tapped into in such a guided and supported adventure environment.

A digital detox, our host, Kayden Kleinhans from Global Wheeling (Discovery and History Channel) spent 15 years travelling one and half times around the world on human energy. Introducing what he calls the nomadic approach, sleeping at various locations throughout the course of the holistic adventure reboot retreat.  He feels that this helps us to feel a sense of detachment from a fixed location and brings us closer to the natural world.

Nomadic Retreat
Glamping on our Nomadic Retreat in the Cederberg, South Africa.

Our glamping camp is set up for our guests at three different locations over the course of the retreat. As we return from a day’s adventuring in the majestic Cederberg mountains in South Africa, we roll back into camp to be met by luxurious facilities and our plant based travelling Chef Alex Skeate.  Alex will be working his magic in the kitchen feeding us in our Bedouin style tented dining area.

In addition to the spectacular vehicle supported hiking and biking that includes the Wolfberg Arch, Maltese Cross, various caves and natural swimming holes, we offer a journey through sound by a traditional Khoisan musician and storyteller, Khoisanboy Man Gershan Lombard. The retreat is opened and closed by Gershan and is a wonderful way to be welcomed into and blessed by a Cederberg local with a deep connection to the land and it’s indigenous ancestral history and rock art.

Adventure Retreat

Our daily flow includes sunrise yoga, Wim Hof cold water swimming and breathing sessions guided by Lulu Erasmus. We offer massage from day two on the retreat for those that need some muscular relief from the adventure elements of the retreat.

Highly accomplished astronomer, David Buckley will be taking us on a guided tour of the Cederberg night sky. David will be spoiling us with two sessions, one underneath the Wolfberg Arch that we hike to and overnight wild camp under and a second presentation on the final night of the retreat in camp at Jamaka.

You’ll be pushing yourself a little on this amazing adventure through the Cederberg and we require a moderate level of fitness to join. All our cycling is vehicle supported and the van is on offer to jump into if you require a breather at any given point. We will be tackling a 65km, a 40km and a 35km stretch on different days by bike on the retreat.  You will however become fitter and stronger as each day passes.  In addition to this e-bike rental options are available at an additional cost for those slightly less bike fit but that would still like to join. The riding is all on wide gravel roads and no overly technical single tracks need navigating. We suggest that you are able to hike 15km with a pack as we’ll be doing some trails that require this level of fitness. We do not race through the landscape but rather take our time to soak up the beauty of the region and all it has to offer and cross the line daily as a group.

Join us for a healing adventure through nature as we reconnect with community and tribe, rise with the morning sun and witness the daily sunsets as we reset our circadian clocks and tap back into the natural world on this digital detox with an adventurous twist. We will shuttle 100km back to our vehicles by lunchtime on day 6 and for those of us needing to catch a flight we can still make a late afternoon flight from Cape Town airport that day.
